Fire Stopping SurveyWhy does my building need a Fire Stopping Survey?

Fire stopping is the process of sealing gaps and holes caused by building services.
These holes may be inherited from the original construction of the building or they may have occurred when additional services with cable or pipework has been added to any building.

The use of Compartments within a building is to restrict the spread of fire, allowing enough time for people to escape and for the emergency services to arrive. Buildings are separated into fire compartments, by incorporating fire rated walls, ceilings and fire doors.

When building services such as cable and pipework are added to the building, breaches are created. Fire stopping is the process of sealing those breaches and reinstating the integrity of the buildings fire walls and ceilings.

What is The purpose of a Fire Stopping Survey?

A Fire Stopping Survey is carried out to identify breaches within the fire wall/ceiling and determine the required fire penetration sealing system. Ceasefire Services surveys will include images of all existing penetrations and document the location. This survey can be used as a fire stopping register to ascertain the level of works required and to help provide a cost to the works required.

All documentation within these surveys then help the landlord, building owner or responsible person for that building to control all Fire Stopping requirements.
Each penetration will receive its own unique breach identification number for future reference along with recommendations on the required fire stopping sealant to reinstate the buildings fire integrity.
